The Girl Behind the Lens

Picture
Hi. My name is Nikki.

I am a wife, puppy mommy, friend, daughter, sister, teacher, mentor, runner, beach bum at heart, blogger, and lover of all things pink, technology and photography.

As long as I can remember, I've had a camera in my hand. Whether a point and shoot camera, my phone or my "big camera" I am constantly capturing every day moments. I have always loved taking pictures; pictures of my family, my friends, my puppies, my vacations, my students, and everything in between BUT never in my wildest dreams would have imagined making a business out of my photography.

My first DSLR camera {Canon T3I} came in a beautifully wrapped box underneath the Christmas tree in 2012 from my amazing husband, Roger. He knew I had always wanted a "big camera" but had never splurged on the purchase. With the camera came a lovely pink strap, an equipment bag, other accessories and a 3 hour photography class. At first came frustration because I was so used to snapping pictures without having to think, but after a few classes and practicing everyday I became more and more comfortable behind the "big" lens and was amazed with the photos I was taking. I got involved in 365Project  in 2013 to keep myself motivated.

Still, I had no intention of starting a business. One night on Facebook I saw that a friend's maternity shoot had been cancelled due to weather. Her photographer wasn't able to reschedule until near her due date and she was devastated. After much contemplation I finally talked myself into offering to do a photo shoot for her and her husband. I was so nervous because up until this point I had only taken pictures that had mattered to me. I also wasn't sure if I would even like photography as intentional work. I was so wrong, I had a blast at the shoot and left hoping that I had got a few good shots! To my surprise I had many great shots and the mommy-to-be was over the moon.

And so my journey began...

Photography has allowed me to make time stand still and capture precious moments not only in my life but in the lives of others. I hope you will allow me to capture YOUR special moments.
